12 apostles

Who knew rocks could be exciting. We've hit the Twelve Apostles, the most iconic part of the Great Ocean Road journey, and once you get past all the tourists they are stunning. There are, admittedly, a lot of tourists. However, we discovered that if you return at sunset the coach parties are gone, while the views remain.
We also decided to visit the twelve apostles gourmet trail. This is a clever scheme where various local food producers have banded together to define a loop of artisan shops to visit and sample cheese, wine, chocolate, whisky and even snails (we decided to give the snails a miss). At it's heart, you're just visiting shops, but the tasting and the welcoming attitude of the vendors makes the trip a pleasant diversion, if not a reason to visit the area of itself. The provisioners also make a fair deal of their organic and free range credentials, although I spent some time pondering what a free range snail looks like and whether it means they just pick them off the wall.
